Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol was born Andrew Warhola in Pittsburgh on August 6, 1928, graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1949, and moved to New York to work as a commercial artist before turning to fine art in the early 1960s. A central figure of Pop art, he worked across painting, silkscreen printing, drawing, photography, film, video, publishing, sculpture and installation, taking up advertising, consumerism, mass media, celebrity and mechanical reproduction. He died in New York City on February 22, 1987. The Whitney Museum of American Art presented the retrospective Andy Warhol—From A to B and Back Again from November 12, 2018, to March 31, 2019.
