Claude Lalanne, née Claude Dupeux, was born in Ury, France, trained at the École des Arts décoratifs, and died in 2019. Working in electroplated copper and bronze, she used galvanic baths and metal deposition to take imprints of leaves, branches and human bodies, producing sculptures, furniture, mirrors, tableware and jewellery, among them the Choupattes, cabbages set on chicken legs. She showed her first Choupattes at the Zoophites exhibition at Galerie J, Paris, in 1964, and collaborated with Yves Saint Laurent from 1969. The Clark Art Institute presented Claude & François-Xavier Lalanne: Nature Transformed in 2021.
