Halim Flowers

American, b. 1980

Halim Flowers was born September 1, 1980 in Washington, D.C. Convicted as a teenager and imprisoned for more than twenty years, he began painting after his release in 2019 and is largely self-taught, describing his approach as optical improvisation. Alongside painting he works as a writer, poet and spoken-word performer, and has held residencies in Barcelona and Los Angeles. Within five years of his release his paintings were shown in galleries in Paris, Washington, Houston, Palm Beach and Dubai, and at MoMA PS1 in Queens, New York.
