Hunt Slonem

American, b. 1951

Hunt Slonem was born July 18, 1951 in Kittery, Maine, and studied at Tulane University and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. He moved to New York in 1973, and Manhattan has remained his base, where he has worked from a series of large Hell's Kitchen and Midtown studios. Associated with Neo-Expressionism, he paints butterflies, rabbits and tropical birds in thickly worked, repeated compositions, and also makes prints and constructed sculpture. His paintings are held in more than fifty museum collections, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
