Jaume Plensa

Jaume Plensa was born in Barcelona in 1955, where he continues to live and work. His sculpture concentrates on the human figure and on the meeting of matter and language: early works were in wrought and cast iron, later ones in bronze, aluminium, alabaster, glass and plastic, incorporating light, sound and letterforms, including oversized heads and figures built as webs of text. He has also designed sets and costumes for theatre and opera. Exhibitions include the Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona (1996), the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume, Paris (1997), the Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid (2000) and Yorkshire Sculpture Park (2011).
