Jonathan Santlofer was born in New York in 1946 and lives and works in Manhattan. He received a BFA from Boston University and an MFA from Pratt Institute, and works in painting and mixed media, combining abstraction with photographic images and objects. His work is held in collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Norton Simon Museum and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Tokyo. After a 1989 Chicago gallery fire destroyed years of his paintings, he also began publishing fiction, including The Death Artist and The Last Mona Lisa.
