Lawrence Weiner

Lawrence Weiner was born in New York City on 10 February 1942 and died on 2 December 2021. Beginning with propeller-shaped canvases in the mid-1960s, he turned to language as a sculptural medium, and from 1968 text describing procedures, propositions and actions was the primary component of his work. These statements appeared on walls, in books, films, records, posters and online, and were often translated for the places where they were installed. He was among the central figures in the formation of Conceptual art and took part in the Museum of Modern Art's exhibition Information.
