Paula Urzica

b. 1989

Paula Urzica was born in Romania in 1989 to a Hungarian family and lives and works in the United Kingdom. She is a self-taught painter who came to hyperrealism in her twenties. Working in oil and pastel, she renders still-life subjects drawn from luxury and consumer culture, among them perfume bottles, confectionery and macarons, at close range and in highly saturated colour, with attention to reflective surfaces and light. Her paintings were presented in the exhibition Decadence and Color at Merritt Gallery in the United States.
