Robert Mars

Robert Mars was born on 19 December 1969 and works from a studio in Connecticut, having lived in Los Angeles and Portland before returning east. A graduate of Parsons School of Design, he worked as a graphic designer and design director before turning to art. He layers Xerox transfers, vintage magazines, newspapers and advertisements with paint and seals them in resin, drawing on the iconography of 1950s and 1960s America. Since 2014 he has incorporated traditional American quilt patterns into these compositions, cutting painted newspaper into pieced designs.
