Padina Bondar is a multidisciplinary artist, designer and activist whose work merges painting, textile innovation and environmental commentary. Born in Tehran and raised in Toronto, she works in New York, and her practice is shaped by cultural juxtaposition and a sustained engagement with sustainability, ethics and inclusivity. She transforms discarded and reclaimed materials into richly layered mixed-media works that challenge received ideas of luxury, value and power.
Her recent painting series, The Killer POP Bunnies, takes its subject from thirteenth- and fourteenth-century manuscript marginalia, where rebellious killer rabbits appeared in the margins of religious texts as satirical figures overturning authority and hierarchy. Reimagined in a saturated pop idiom, the hares become protagonists — playful and confrontational at once.
Layering acrylic, textiles, paper and found materials, Bondar replaces swords with oversized lollipops, ice cream cones and candy, using sweetness as a figure for indulgence, distraction and the performative character of modern power.
Her background in sustainable textile design remains central to the work. Bondar has exhibited at The National Arts Club and presented an immersive New York Fashion Week collection at 458 West Broadway in SoHo.
