“Art is for everyone.”

Haring's mantra was never more evident than in the chalk drawings he made across the New York City subway system between 1980 and 1985. They were conceived as a gift to the public — immediate, free, encountered by commuters in the hum of daily life. They were meant to be shared, not preserved. And yet some survived. Those fragile sheets of MTA poster paper, creased, marked, and sometimes still clinging to their subway backings, now stand as treasures of art history.

piper | poet's Haring programme is a scholarly one. The gallery treats the subway drawings as documents of a specific place and moment as much as objects of the market, and works with collectors, scholars and institutions on questions of authenticity, condition, exhibition history and display.
